Pride as a Protest: Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Visibility and Equality
June is Pride Month, a time for the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate their identity, reflect on the struggle for social justice, and come together to show the world that Pride is about love and equality. While it can mean different things to different people, for us at Pure for Men, Pride is a protest against the fear and shame that comes with hiding one's true identity.
From personal experience, living in the shadows can cause harm and perpetuate guilt and shame. That's why we believe in being out and proud, even if it's not always easy. We are not afraid to be who we are, and we know that our visibility matters. By being our authentic selves, we can inspire others to do the same and create a more accepting and inclusive society.
“…being visible and proud in one's true identity can feel amazing and inspire others to do the same.”
For some, Pride may mean learning about the history of the Gay Movement and the Stonewall Riots. For others, it may be attending a Pride Parade or festival, volunteering at a local LGBTQIA+ organization, or donating to a queer charity. Whatever it is, being visible and proud in one's true identity can feel amazing and inspire others to do the same.
At Pure for Men, we celebrate Pride as a time to protest against fear and shame and to promote visibility, acceptance, and equality. We encourage everyone to embrace their true selves, to be out there and be proud. Let's continue to shine our rainbow light and inspire others to do the same. Happy Pride Month!
